As you guys might have noticed, my blog layout has changed a bit in the pas few days. I’ve been wanting to pimp Fashion Agony for a while now, and it took me some time to figure out what I want and how I want it done. My blog has migrated from Blogger to WordPress and it’s a major change, which required knowledge I do not possess. And this is where fellow blogger Sophia Molen came for the rescue. She’s just starting her blog redesign business, so it’s a great chance for you to take advantages of the affordable rates.
That being said, there’s a number of things you can do to improve your blog design, that don’t require major coding or photoshop knowledge. Less is more and, in my opinion, minimal blog designs always look way more attractive. They make your content truly pop and create an impression of a serious website run by a professional.
Here’s how you can make you blog look a lot better right now in just 7 steps:
1. Get rig of colorful images in your header and opt for a simple logo on top.
2. Remove all the banners that you really don’t need, as well as unnecessary social channel buttons all over the place. It’s absolutely enough to have a small section with all the buttons in your sidebar, instead of a 5-post long sidebar. When a visitor reads you content, you want them to see only your post, not the number of your visitors or the ads of brands that you support. Unclutter as much as you can.
3. Work with your fonts. Make sure you’re using 3 fonts at most (that includes the fonts in your header). Don’t use different font sizes within a single post unless you absolutely have to.
4. If chosen correctly, colors can make a big impact. Google color schemes and choose carefully. Try not to use more than 3 colors in your design. Make your links one color and don’t use that color on any other text.
5. Black letters against a white background are much easier to read than white letters against a black background. If you want your readers to stay longer, change that.
6. Left align or justify your texts, do not center align!
7. If you’re using images, make sure they are the same width (not like in this post). It’s better if your text field and image widths are the same.
Also remember that content is king! Do your best to create impressive visuals. I’ll share my top 10 photography tips next week, so stay tuned.
Hope this was useful!
